Anchor Points

I talked a lot this week on my instagram about how the path to becoming unstuck is made up of micro moments where you choose to keep going. That when you wake up in the morning, there is that very first brief moment of peace before you are hit, once again, with the reality of the stress, trauma, grief and LIFE happening to you. Even getting out of bed can feel overwhelming and pointless sometimes. But, the way to keep going is two fold. 1. We can do anything for 2 minutes, just decide to start by doing ONE thing 2. Find your anchor point. What is the thing that forces you to get out of bed? For me, it is my children. I have 6 sets of eyes looking at me to set the tone for them. Is mom ok? My kids have their own journey through grief, loss, and the traumas that we endured together within those losses. And I HAVE to show them that there is no other option but to keep going. Some days it is a bare minimum day. Get them to school and sit with my feelings. I choose to invest all of my energy into being present for them. I will spend the time I have alone in as much solitude as I can, doing the least amount possible, so that when I pick them up, the remaining hours of the day goes to them and not distraction. Other days, I have the strength to “pull an all dayer” and I am more productive, social, etc. Whatever kind of day it is, I know there will be another day and that it is okay. This is a lesson I have had to learn. As a very organized, productive, type A person, NOT doing things is not easy for me. But there are teeny, tiny silver linings in grief. When I simply could NOT do mundane tasks, I learned that they can wait and there is nothing wrong with surrendering to what the day brings and prioritizing your mental health.

The key to navigating a grief journey is to allow yourself grace to feel how you feel and to sit with those feelings. If you tuck them down, avoid or put them away, they absolutely will return. You cannot escape the emotions in grief. Once you accept that you will not move on from your grief, you can start the process to move forward with your own personal tool kit to navigate each moment as they come. If you’re interested in learning what to put in your own tool kit, give me a buzz. Let me help you move forward. XO

Big Emotions

Recently I have been told I have “big emotions.” Which I found offensive at first. I was reflecting on this on my walk today. And I had to laugh. I started my walk feeling overwhelmed. I feel sadness
